Coming from a high school graduating class of 150, UW was enormous to me. When I first came, I was nervous that I was too small a fish to make even a splash in this ocean. Having the chance to be in a FIG helped bridge that gap. It was reassuring to have peers who you could talk to about the challenges you were having in adjusting and have that group to come back to. It was foundational in my transition.

FIG Goals~

"This year is the time I have to explore different areas of knowledge and learning styles. I want to experiment with different types of classes to recognize what pulls me in."

"A strong foundation for me consists of becoming comfortable in this new environment, and learning how to use my resources effectively."

"I want to experiment with different types of classes to recognize what pulls me in.There are my aspirations that remain, but really my initial step towards that is orienting myself at UW. As the year progresses, I hope to have a clearer mind to really delve into making the best of the education and opportunities college has to offer."

Like a first stroke on a clean slate, preparing for my first midterm in ECON 200 was all about wanting to start of strong. So you best believe I brought out all the colors to help. But in all honesty, a fresh layer of motivation was my driving force to help prepare me for this midterm where I pushed myself to go over everything...yup read most of the textbook for this. Can't say I did that again, but I do appreciate the study habits this helped me develop. The methods are still in use in my studying all the way in senior year. I was able to adapt this routine to many of my classes. For this, thank you ECON 200. But also, thank you for being that first stepping stone in me gaining some understanding of what major I wanted to pursue.

With law school in my mind, I wanted to gain some real-world insight in what a career in the legal field would look like.I started working as a legal assistant in the beginning of my freshmen year at a City Prosecuting Attorney's office where I helped prepare attorneys for their many cases in municipal court. I saw a lens into our criminal justice system at the grassroots level and the behind the scenes in a courtroom. My respect grew when I witnessed the many cases the attorneys took upon and the workings of their daily jobs. Working here, I learned that I do indeed want to go to law school and become an attorney, I find it empowering and something I envision myself doing. I also learned that perhaps criminal law may not be the course I want to take. This job has given me a sense of independence and I am grateful that I was able to grow in any aspects because of it in my resilience, my work ethic, and professionalism which is why 4 years later I still find myself in this cubicle.
