Trying my hand at Case Competitions
AMA 2019

UW Sustainability 2020
Whilst at Foster, in attempts to get the whole business experience, I participated in many case competitions. The AMA marketing case comp was my first one and I loved the thrill of working on a case and the fast-paced nature of putting together a presentation. It reminded me of the fun I had in high school doing Mock trial just in a business sense. Case competitions were challenging as I didn't know the structure or the nuances that worked. It was a great learning curve and I am taking a whole lot of lessons with me that I hope to grow upon. I don't think undergrad is it for me in terms of case comps, I would like to continue them in some capacity either in a job or graduate school because it has also piqued my interest in consulting.
Foster Honors Seminar
I got to be part of a Foster Honors seminar in Winter quarter and it was one of the most challenging classes I took. The class revolved around business strategy and we learned about many different companies and industries and what they were doing tube successful. There were many interesting speakers, I loved hearing about MOD Pizza from the founder who spoke to our class! The main project throughout this class was around suggesting a strategy to an existing company to increase their competitive advantage. With such a broad task at hand, the challenge was in narrowing down what our focus would be. I chose to focus on Apple after reading some news about their privacy issues. In a world where technology is at our fingertips through smartphones, what is the cost of privacy for companies? This project required a lot of research something I struggled with. However, the challenge put forth by this class and the peers that I learned so much from are takeaways for life. It was interesting as this came at the cusp of the pandemic taking place so I remember it being a crazy couple of weeks.
SEAL Research grant
In the spring, I joined the UW Sensors, Energy, Automation Lab (SEAL) as a business research lab assistant for the quarter. I was tasked under the Efficiency, Content, and Style (ECoS) tool which was a preliminary software solution as a carefully designed Microsoft Word Add-in (plug-in) that utilizes decades of technical writing and editing experience to address common mistakes made in technical communications. I helped to write a grant proposal we were seeking to further this project into the prototype and testing phase. This was an entirely new experience as I hasn't done research in a lab like this not have I written a grant proposal before. I used my business knowledge to research competitive landscape and market prospects. I then helped to write the proposal parts along with the rest of the team. This was a really cool learning experience a whole new landscape I stepped into. It gave me experience in technical writing and I learned a lot from the my team.
